Daniel, Chapter 4:
1. Preamble
Verses more or less as written. (commentary in parentheses. Happy to provide sources on request. Primarily Mikraos Gedolos.)
(Dear World,)
(The letter begins with 3:31-33:)
A message from King Nebuchadnezzar, the king of Babylon and now of the world, to every human in the world, in every language and country:
From the King personally,
I wish you the best economically,
The Most High G-d has done with me,
Signs and Miracles so wonderfully,
How great they are! (He’s even greater than me!)
I will concede, appropriately,
That the Most High G-d rules eternally,
and in every generation of humanity.
(Poetic interlude, in the name of King Nebuchadnezzar, to introduce the themes in chapter 4:
King Nebuchadnezzar is my name,
From Babylon, of post-diluvian fame,
In the tradition of the Tower of Babel I came,
We took on G-d and accepted the blame.
Since I won every military game,
To Rule The Entire World I claim,
Our national idol is the flame,
Our symbol, a winged lion, none can tame.
No other king can say the same. )
