I love how you learn from people’s reactions how to redirect the conversation. Great articles!

I literally sent the "conversation at the post office" cartoon-y panel to a friend today.

And then, when talking to that friend, (who is autistic) I figured out why I find it so funny / keep looking at it again and again. I was like:

"...each person's line in the conversation.. i would -not- have predicted from the one before. so it's like i feel uncomfortable for each of them, even though it's a kinda low-stakes conversation."

It seems like my neighbors either raise chickens or keep bees. The exception area the ones that named their two sons Dylan and Arlo. Dylan and Arlo’s dad spends most of his free time working on a VW van of unknown vintage. He spends much more time working on it than driving it.

Yeah, it’s that kind of neighborhood. I think I’ll put on a Grateful Dead T-shirt and bring something written by Alan Watts down to the local coffee shop. NOT a Starbucks mind you. They proposed building one near my house and the neighborhood protested strongly enough to prevent such a corporate atrocity from rearing it’s ugly head.

Peace ✌️

Peace 🕊️✌️

And what's your thing? Chickens, bees, or vw or something else?

My thing is mowing my neighbor’s lawns and shoveling their sidewalks in winter. Less exotic than the other pastimes but I get invited to a lot of barbecues. :)

Mazal Tov on your new chicks! I hope they had time to adjust before meeting the kids 🐣

My daughter was relieved to hear that they would be pets and not food 🙂 (and is wondering what will happen with the 5th one)

They did, don't worry. And they lay eggs, so we need them alive

I'm still quite surprised that you can actually get live chicks shipped to the post office.
